I was searching through flickr and came across the following line, captioning portrait of an Arab boy:
السعاده هي الشيء الوحيد الذي تستطيع ان تقدمه دون ان تملكه
Happiness it is the only thing you can give without being owned
All right! I cheated and translated this this using Google Translate because I did not know the meaning of دون ان تملكه and couldn’t be bothered to trawl through a dictionary. I liked pronouncing this line, hearing the sound of it, that is why I have included it here. Looking at its word by word meanings:
| ان تملكه | دون | ان تقدمه | تستطيع | الذي | الوحيد | الشيء |
هي |
السعاده |
| owning it | with out | give it | you can, able to | that | only | the thing | it is (f) | Happiness |
I understand the sentence as: Happines is the only thing that you can give with out owning it.

Nouhad Hadad , famously known as Fairouz , is a Lebanese icon. Her songs are celebrated throughout the land and she is a source of national pride. Although I do appreciate the sentiment this song conveys but main reason for posting it here its Arabic. The vocabulary is not difficult and can be easily understood.

I am not really a fan of dark chocolate so I had never tried these before. Whilst looking for something different I grabbed a packet but before opening it I checked the back to make sure they were Halal.
Lo and behold! The back had wealth of information. Not just the usual ingredients list and et cetera in English and/or some other European lingo … but in Arabic. Yes, I have noticed Arabic on many products before but have hardly ever paid attention to it. Now that I am learning Arabic I immediately set about to see what I can learn and then made it into this post.
الفرق بین جملہ اسمیہ و مرکب توصیفی
Whilst progressing through Arabic recognising between different sentences actually become easier. You learn and apply more rules, and anyway complicated sentences have more signs to identify a sentence.
Its when you begin to learn Arabic and are learning baby sentences that there is a subtle difference between a جملہ اسمیہ and مرکب توصیفی making distinction between the two a little more harder.
There is a difference ھناک فرق
